Chicago Man Sentenced for Assaulting 13-Year-Old

A 33-year-old man from Chicago has received a sentence after being accused of pushing a 13-year-old boy against a wall. The man allegedly expressed a disturbing interest in “little boys and girls,” according to reports.

Devontay Kenney followed the young boy on West Division Street in Humboldt Park on February 24, 2025. As per court records, he has a history of felony convictions, including drug offenses and an aggravated robbery in 2017.

Reports indicate that Kenney attempted to engage the boy’s attention by making inappropriate comments. When the boy ignored him, Kenney grabbed his sweater and pushed him against a brick wall, allegedly to prevent him from escaping.

After a struggle, the boy managed to break free and sought help at a nearby convenience store. Witnesses confronted Kenney, who attempted to mislead them by claiming to be the boy’s uncle.

Kenney has since pleaded guilty to unlawful restraint, with more severe charges of child kidnapping and aggravated assault dropped by prosecutors.

This week, Judge John Reich sentenced Kenney to six years in prison. It’s worth noting that only a week before this incident, Kenney had been cited for distributing drugs and was under a curfew with electronic monitoring. However, shortly after these new charges, the drug-related accusations were dismissed.

As highlighted earlier, Kenney’s background includes multiple felony convictions, raising concerns about his repeated legal troubles.
