Trump Mobile Begins Shipping Phones Amid Criticism
Trump Mobile has started shipping its phones, following recent backlash from liberal commentators who labeled the company a scam due to delays.
Earlier this week, some left-leaning media claimed that the launch of the device was in jeopardy after Trump Mobile updated its terms of service.
“Pre-ordered phones will start being delivered to customers this week,” the company announced.
Last year, Trump Mobile required a $100 deposit for smartphones, aiming for a release in August 2025. However, around nine months later, many reported the updated contract terms from April, which mentioned that the company “does not guarantee that the device will be manufactured or available for purchase.”
The terms indicated that “pre-order deposits are provided only as a conditional opportunity should Trump Mobile later choose, at its discretion, to sell the device.” This revelation upset many, including progressive Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who referred to himself as being “deceived.” He referenced a video by Stephen Colbert discussing the uncertainties surrounding the phone’s arrival.
Yet on Thursday, the company announced the start of shipping the T1 smartphone, a gold-colored Android device featuring an impressive 512 GB of storage.
“Pre-ordered phones are beginning to arrive to customers this week,” said CEO Pat O’Brien.
O’Brien explained that the delays were due to the necessity of ensuring that all components met regulatory standards.
The phone is priced at $499 and comes with Trump’s branding. It is powered by a Snapdragon 7 processor, includes 12GB of RAM, has a 6.78-inch display, a 5,000mAh battery, and a triple 50MP camera system.
Critics have raised concerns, particularly regarding the hardware. One source referred to the T1 as a “reskinned version of the Chinese-made Wingtech Revvl 7 Pro 5G.”
PC Mag rated the phone as a 3 out of 5. The T1 was also compared to the HTC U24 Pro from Taiwan.
Though initially marketed as being “designed and manufactured” in the U.S., O’Brien clarified that the first set of devices would only be “assembled” in the country, while aiming for a future model with most components sourced domestically.
Additionally, Trump Mobile offers a monthly plan at $47.45, providing unlimited calls, texts, and data in a nod to the former president. They also allow subscribers to connect older devices to their network.
The delay of roughly 280 days isn’t unprecedented in the mobile world. For example, the white iPhone 4 had a much longer delay of 308 days before its release in 2011.
