Cristiano Argento's path from Italy to professional wrestling in the US

Cristiano Argento’s Journey in Professional Wrestling

Cristiano Argento has been dominating his opponents in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and is making significant strides toward winning a gold medal. However, his path to one of the leading professional wrestling organizations in the U.S. was quite a journey—one rarely taken by wrestlers.

Born in Osimo, a small town of around 35,000 situated on Italy’s eastern coast near the Adriatic Sea, Argento began his wrestling training at a boxing gym. He initially started on the independent circuit in Italy, gaining more experience across Germany, Sweden, France, and Denmark, and eventually realized he needed to move to America to achieve his goals.

Argento later traveled to Canada to train with the renowned wrestler Lance Storm. Leaving his friends and family back in Italy, he immigrated to Canada, grappling with his limited English skills at the time.

“My English was terrible back then. I really couldn’t speak at all,” he shared. “My friend Stefano came with me and translated everything. I think I missed a lot of the knowledge because I was just getting summaries and trying to pick things up visually. If I’d had a better grip on English, I believe it would have been a much different experience.”

After completing his training, Argento returned to Italy with a newfound determination to reach the U.S. He took English classes seriously and soon obtained his first work visa to Texas. He briefly stayed in Houston, where he trained with Booker T at Reality of Wrestling and made his U.S. debut on his show. Eventually, he secured another work visa in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he has lived since 2017. Fortunately, his wrestling career has grown from there, placing him in one of the biggest promotions in the U.S.

Argento mentioned that his family initially thought he was “crazy” for chasing his wrestling dreams. They were understandably concerned about his safety, given that he was in a foreign country without a support system.

“Everyone was puzzled about why I’d move across the world alone, not knowing the language or anyone,” he recalled. “But I figured you only live once, and I was going to go for it.” His family eventually became supportive, but their initial reaction was filled with disbelief and concern. “When I first told my parents, they were like, ‘Are you crazy?’ But over time, they saw my passion for the sport and began to understand.”

“They’re proud now,” he said, “I think it’s less about me leaving and more about them realizing how tough it is to follow your dreams. They worry about me being so far away and the time difference complicating things. It’s really tough not being around them; I might get to see them just once a year.”

Reflecting on his life in America, Argento believes that the nickname “Land of Opportunity” holds significant truth. “I’ve always looked up to those who came to the U.S. and found success,” he commented. “It’s essentially about seizing the opportunities that come your way. I’ve accomplished so much more here than I ever could have elsewhere. While I’m not where I want to be yet, the opportunities seem endless.”

Argento was also inspired by the stories of famous actors who arrived in the U.S. without money or support, yet followed their dreams fearlessly. “I was determined to obtain my dreams regardless of how far I had to come or what challenges I faced,” he explained.

This year, outside of wrestling with the NWA, he has also performed for International Wrestling Cartel, Enjoy Wrestling, and Exodus Pro Wrestling.
