Newly released footage captures a tragic incident in Auckland where a young driver crashed into a crowd, resulting in three fatalities and several injuries on Saturday night.

The video shows the driver speeding down a road and colliding with people and parked vehicles near a liquor store.

Witnesses reported that the driver tried to escape but was detained by bystanders until police arrived.

The crash occurred just before 11:15 p.m. at the intersection of International Boulevard and 85th Street, according to local authorities.

All three victims died at the scene, while three others were taken to a hospital, with two in critical condition.

Mayor Barbara Lee issued a statement Sunday, expressing her condolences and gratitude to first responders. She mentioned that the city is mourning the loss of life from this incident.

“Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected,” Lee stated.

Eyewitness accounts describe the moment vividly. One person recalled seeing the driver accelerate after hitting a parked car, which sent victims flying. “He hit this blue car… and drove down the sidewalk, knocking all the people over,” another witness reported.

Michael Turner, another observer, described the chaos: “I heard tires screeching followed by a loud bang. When he hit the first car, I heard the gas pedal pressed harder.”

One of the injured victims, now hospitalized, is reportedly undergoing surgery, and friends are concerned. “It’s terrible. It’s a nightmare for the community,” said Shedrick Henry, a childhood friend of the victim.
