Memorial Day Candlelight Ceremony at Arlington

In a gesture to honor Memorial Day, a candlelight ceremony will take place at Arlington National Cemetery this Monday. This event marks the 250th anniversary of America and will involve stars, veterans, and members of Congress coming together from around the world.

“Memorial Day serves as a solemn reminder that our freedoms aren’t free. We pay tribute to the courageous individuals who sacrificed their lives for our country and the fundamental principles we cherish,” said Doug Collins, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and host of the event. “Their sacrifices are the bedrock of American liberty, and we are grateful for their bravery.”

Organizers have shared plans and visual representations of the ceremony, which promises to bring together country music artists and other figures for a national celebration to honor American heroes.

“Set against the backdrop of the sacred Arlington, this evening will serve as a heartfelt tribute to our fallen heroes through personal stories, music, and moments of remembrance,” noted Freedom 250, a nonpartisan organization coordinating the broader America 250 initiative.

Country music star Gretchen Wilson is set to perform. “It’s such an honor to be part of this. To honor our fallen heroes and their families in such a sacred space is truly overwhelming,” she remarked, adding a hopeful prayer for justice.

Newly released design renderings gave an aerial view of the amphitheater that will host the event.

This program also aims to highlight Captain Humbert “Rocky” Versace, a Medal of Honor recipient and Vietnam War POW, celebrating his faith and resilience during his captivity.

Additionally, Capt. Daniel W. Eggers, a U.S. Army Special Forces officer who tragically lost his life in Afghanistan while supporting Afghan forces, will be remembered. Freedom 250 emphasized Eggers’ humility and commitment to his fellow soldiers.

Courage and Legacy on Memorial Day

Jason Beardsley, a veteran and national security leader, along with Medal of Honor recipient Maj. Gen. Patrick Henry Brady and historian Dr. Mark Moyer, are expected to share personal insights on military service and the enduring cost of freedom during the ceremony.

“Memorial Day isn’t just about remembering. It’s about honoring those who gave everything for this nation and educating future generations on the real cost of freedom,” noted Beardsley.

The wreath-laying ceremony, coupled with the National Foundation Day events, will be streamed live, and the entire tribute will run from 8:30 PM to 10 PM ET.
