Spurs Dominate Thunder to Tie Western Conference Finals

The San Antonio Spurs triumphed over the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-82 on Sunday night, leveling the Western Conference Finals in a commanding game.

With both teams now tied at two wins, Game 5 on Tuesday night at Oklahoma City’s Peiko Center is set to be crucial. It will be interesting to see which team gains an advantage heading into what may be a decisive Game 6.

A story worth noting was the Thunder’s struggles with their 3-point shooting. In Game 3, they showcased impressive shooting, hitting 44.7% from beyond the arc and 48.1% overall, which certainly helped secure that win.

However, the Spurs made effective adjustments on defense in Game 4. The Thunder managed only 6 of 33 attempts (18%) from three-point range and hit 33% from the field overall.

San Antonio had a tough time as well, shooting 27% from three (9 of 33) and 39% from the field. Yet, they played aggressively, taking 32 free throws compared to Oklahoma City’s 18.

The intensity was palpable, but it was the Spurs who capitalized on their opportunities. Their strong start set the tone right from the beginning, taking a nine-point lead by the end of the first quarter and extending it to double digits by halftime. The home crowd certainly seemed to appreciate this performance.

As the game progressed, the Thunder began to falter, turning the ball over frequently, a situation the Spurs exploited throughout the season.

The Spurs excelled in fast-break situations, scoring 25 points off the Thunder’s 20 turnovers.

At one point, the lead grew to 25 points, allowing the Spurs to rest their starters as the game neared its end—a nice luxury, don’t you think?

Victor Wembaneyama returned to form, leading his team with 33 points (11 of 22), including three threes, as well as grabbing eight rebounds and handing out five assists. He also made an impact defensively with three blocks.

Additionally, Stephon Castle contributed with 13 points, while Devin Vassell and De’Aaron Fox added 13 and 12 points, respectively. The Spurs’ bench also made their mark, with Dylan Harper scoring seven points and securing five rebounds.

On the other side, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder seemed to have an off night shooting, making just 6 of 15 attempts but converting all seven of his free throws. In Oklahoma City, he tallied four rebounds, seven assists, and had four turnovers.

The Thunder, typically known for solid contributions from their bench, fell short this time. Players like Aaron Wiggins and Jared McCain, who had been pivotal in Game 3, struggled mightily, making just 3 of 21 field goals and totaling eight points.

The top two seeds in the West will meet again on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. ET. It should be an exciting matchup.
