Zelenskiy’s Call for Enhanced U.S. Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has reached out to President Donald Trump and the U.S. Congress with a request for more Patriot interceptor missiles. In a detailed letter sent on Tuesday, he mentioned that Ukraine is ready to purchase the necessary systems and missiles.
While expressing gratitude for U.S. support, Zelenskiy emphasized Ukraine’s heavy reliance on the United States for its ballistic missile defense. He articulated the significance of the Patriot system in countering Russian threats.
“We rely almost exclusively on the United States for defense against ballistic missiles,” said Zelenskiy. He noted that the Patriot system is a crucial means of countering various missile types from Russia.
In addition to his requests, he pointed out the global demand for Patriot anti-ballistic missiles, highlighting their necessity in regions such as the Middle East.
“For us, and for a nation fighting for its survival, there are few things more painful to see than a Patriot battery without a loaded missile. We ask for your help in protecting Ukraine’s skies from Russian missiles,” he stated.
Zelenskiy argued that Russian ballistic missiles are a significant advantage for President Vladimir Putin on the battlefield.
“One of the challenges that remains very difficult for us, and one that Europe cannot solve alone at this stage, is the Russian ballistic missile threat,” he added.
He urged, “They can be stopped. With patriots, with your help. And you have the power to help.”
This plea follows one of the most substantial Russian assaults on Kiev since the war began, which involved nearly 700 airstrikes.
“It is very unusual for the leader of another state to address both the President and Congress of the United States in a letter at the same time,” Zelenskiy posted on X. “But the current situation requires swift and effective action.”
Zelenskiy’s initiative reinforces the urgency of Ukraine’s defensive needs amid escalating tensions.
