Peppermint Urges RuPaul to Address Trump and Media Consolidation
Peppermint, a star from Drag Race, expressed her desire for RuPaul Charles to take a stand against President Donald Trump and the Ellison family’s influence in media ownership. In an interview with Private Media on Tuesday, she remarked, “It’s encouraging to see voices from the show addressing our country’s political issues, especially concerning the impact of money on policy, notably with the Ellisons and the Paramount acquisition.”
She made a lighthearted comment about future statements from RuPaul, joking, “Once the takeover is finalized, you’ll know if RuPaul praises Larry Ellison—they’ll likely have a script ready.” Peppermint added, “I can imagine there’s a script detailing how they’ll start praising President Trump. I can only hope it doesn’t go that way, but you never know.”
The reality star elaborated, suggesting that Drag Race could either take a moral stance or act as a platform to echo directives. “I really hope it doesn’t come to that, but there’s a growing trend,” she noted. “With these large companies, like Paramount or CNN, everything seems to fall under the control of their owners.”
Peppermint pointed out the implications of this media consolidation, stating, “Every show, every network will likely be influenced by their higher-ups.” She highlighted that with networks like MTV being owned by Paramount, dominated by David Ellison—the son of billionaire Larry Ellison—there are significant concerns about creative freedom.
In her strong opinions, she labeled the situation as bordering on fascism, claiming, “If this doesn’t change, I believe that’s where the future of the show is heading.” With an almost absurd portrayal, she predicted, “One day we might wake up to find the show requiring us to recite the Pledge of Allegiance with Donald Trump’s name attached. That’s how fascism creeps in.” Peppermint stressed her disdain for this possibility, stating, “I don’t want to see that happening; it’s like coercing people into marching to a dictated rhythm.”
