Texas High School Principal Reinstated After Controversial Social Media Posts

A Muslim woman whose social media activity raised eyebrows has been reinstated as principal of a Texas high school after just one week in the position.

The Fort Worth Independent School District announced on Tuesday that Sheima Alzubi was initially removed from her role at Western Hills High School while an investigation was conducted.

Alzubi, who has spent a decade in education, reportedly shared posts on Facebook that defended Sharia law, supported the Black Lives Matter movement, and stated that “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine.” Some of her posts also expressed support for COVID-19 mask mandates.

The district issued a statement emphasizing that educators in the district should not infuse personal political views into classroom settings. They noted that Fort Worth ISD serves a diverse community and remains committed to providing quality education to all students.

While Mr. Alzubi has not commented publicly, supporters of hers are organizing a press conference at the Islamic Reunification Center, where they plan to call for her immediate reinstatement as principal.

They contend that complaints from “several right-wing bloggers” targeted her due to her Muslim identity and traditional Islamic attire, including the hijab. The Council on American-Islamic Relations criticized the situation as an “anti-Muslim witch hunt,” claiming she was unfairly singled out.

Prior to her principal role, Alzubi served as an assistant principal at Southwest High School.
