President Donald Trump is currently in the Situation Room at the White House, working on finalizing decisions regarding a peace agreement with Iran after a tentative ceasefire that lasted several weeks.
In a post made on Truth social, he reiterated the U.S. stance that Iran needs to agree to never pursue nuclear weapons. He also emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz—an essential route for oil and gas exports—should reopen immediately without tolls or restrictions.
“If there were any surface mines, they would all be decommissioned. We have already detonated many of them with our advanced underwater minesweepers. Iran will have to remove or detonate the remaining mines, which shouldn’t be many,” Trump noted. He added that ships trapped due to the U.S.’s extensive naval blockade can now start their journey home.
“From me, your favorite president, say hi to your families!” he added.
Additionally, Trump insisted that Iran must surrender its highly enriched uranium to comply with U.S. nuclear policy. Iran maintains that its uranium enrichment is solely for civilian purposes, yet reports indicate that its enrichment levels have reached around 60%, significantly exceeding the 20% threshold required for non-military applications.
He mentioned that the “nuclear dust” buried underground would be excavated by the U.S. in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, claiming that this material would ultimately be destroyed.
“No money will exchange hands until further notice. Some less critical items have been agreed upon,” Trump stated. “I’m now making final decisions in the Situation Room.”
The most recent draft of the memorandum of understanding is pending Trump’s approval. This draft includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and extending the cease-fire for another 60 days to facilitate further discussions on Iran’s nuclear program—an ongoing source of tension dating back long before the U.S. attack on Tehran in late February.
The cease-fire remains fragile, with reports of ongoing attacks in the Middle East. On Friday, CENTCOM denied Iranian state television’s claims that Iran shot down a U.S. military aircraft in the area.
