Caitlin Clark avoided the media following the Fever defeat — even after breaking a WNBA record

After Thursday night’s defeat to the Golden State Valkyries, Caitlin Clark reportedly did not talk to the media.

The star guard of the Indiana Fever had her lowest-scoring game this season, managing only 16 points while hitting just 25 percent of her shots.

On a brighter note, she made history by becoming the fastest player to achieve 500 assists in WNBA history.

Despite her struggles, Clark opted to forgo post-game interviews and continued with her pre-game remarks.

The past nine days have been challenging for security staff.

Clark had previously withdrawn from the Fever’s May 20 matchup against the Portland Fire at the last minute, even though she wasn’t listed on the injury report, prompting some criticism about the timing.

Instead of punishing the Fever, the league merely issued a warning.

Before the game, ESPN broadcaster Cari Champion referred to Caitlin Clark as “entitled” during an episode of the “Flagrant and Funny” podcast.

Champion expressed her conflicted feelings: “The more I watch Caitlin Clark, the more I think, ‘I can’t stand how you behave on the court.’ The league promotes you as a superstar, and with that comes certain responsibilities. If you’re not ready to take that on, I get it.”

Some champions believe Clark enjoys a level of favor from the league, especially following her late scratch last week.

“That kind of open favoritism is really frustrating,” Champion noted. “It’s hard to say if this is entirely her doing. But, honestly, I can’t help but wonder why she seems to get treated differently.”

On Thursday, Clark and the Fever narrowly lost to the Valkyries 90-88.

In that game, Clark struggled, scoring 16 points on 3-of-12 shooting.

Despite this performance, she has had a solid season overall, averaging 22.5 points and 8.5 assists per game.

The Fever’s next game is Saturday against the Portland Fire.
