As artificial intelligence progresses, many Christians are increasingly worried that it could signal the end times. Some speculate that the Antichrist—foreseen in religious texts—could emerge as either an AI entity or a human-AI hybrid. Others suggest it may become a tool wielded by a human Antichrist. Regardless, many foresee a grim future where this powerful technology ultimately leads to humanity’s downfall.
During a conversation with Blaze TV host Allie Beth Stuckey, Glenn Beck provided a stark analysis, highlighting just how terrifying the potential of current technology is.
“Imagine if Hitler had access to today’s technology. That would have been catastrophic. If we go dark, we would look like amateurs compared to what the Germans achieved,” he remarked, illustrating how advancements in surveillance, AI processing, and data collection could generate unimaginable consequences.
However, the concept of artificial superintelligence (ASI)—where AI vastly exceeds human intelligence—renders our current technology relatively rudimentary.
Glenn describes ASI as akin to a “hostile extraterrestrial being.”
Despite the looming existential threats, developers like Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI (the organization behind ChatGPT), appear determined to realize this vision.
“He seems to think he can control it,” Glenn notes.
However, Glenn argues that true remote control over ASI has never been feasibly contemplated. “You can’t ever fully control it. What we are doing is just a form of baby-gating,” he added.
It’s genuinely chilling to envision such power in the possession of a malevolent being, whether human or artificial.
Allie is eager to know how to prevent such a force from coming to fruition.
“What’s it like trying to wield that kind of power for good?” she questions Glenn.
According to tech executives Glenn interacts with, intervention from the government is likely.
“His views and those of his circle suggest that if we approach a certain threshold, the government might step in and outright ban it,” he tells Allie.
However, if figures like “Sam Altman” refuse to comply, powerful nations—especially those wary of losing control, like Russia and China—could resort to aggressive actions against proponents of ASI, Glenn worries.
“It’s a grim scenario. So, what’s the way to prevent it?” Allie retorts.
