Concerns Grow Over Great American State Fair Entertainment Lineup

A few days after details emerged about the Great American State Fair—set to honor the U.S.’s 250th anniversary—many artists have made it clear they won’t be performing. This event, organized by the Freedom 250 group, aims to showcase a variety of entertainment and activities.

Freedom 250 released information on the lineup and event specifics, stating that the fair will run for 16 days on the National Mall, starting June 25. The festival promises live shows, exhibits, patriotic displays, and family-friendly events.

However, issues began almost immediately after the artist lineup was announced. Morris Day and the Time quickly distanced themselves with a post on their Facebook page, clearly stating, “Morris Day & The Time will not be performing at the Great American State Fair,” followed by “No for me.”

Young MC soon chimed in on his Facebook, saying, “I informed my agent that I won’t be performing at the Freedom 250 event. We were not made aware of any political angle; though organizers say it’s nonpartisan, others describe it as pro-Trump.”

The Commodores and Martina McBride also confirmed they would not be participating, with McBride stating that she was misled about the event’s bipartisan nature. She found it disappointing that what was presented as a non-political opportunity didn’t turn out that way.

Bret Michaels echoed similar sentiments in an Instagram post, expressing concern about the evolving nature of the event, deeming it increasingly divisive. He expressed worries for the safety of everyone involved, ultimately deciding to withdraw.

C+C Music Factory’s Freedom Williams took to Instagram with a passionate video responding to backlash over his participation. While he initially planned to withdraw due to a lack of awareness about Trump’s involvement, he also criticized those threatening to cancel him over this decision. He stated, “So I told the agent, oh, no, you can’t do that.” His comments stirred quite a reaction, reflecting the heated atmosphere surrounding the event.

Meanwhile, a founding member of C+C Music Factory clarified that his views did not align with Williams’, expressing he was neither involved in planning nor endorsing the event. In a separate announcement, the representatives for Milli Vanilli declared they would not be performing, stating that the groups listed in the advertising should be considered tribute acts.

However, one of the original members, Fab Morvan, shared a different perspective, expressing his excitement about being part of the event. Vanilla Ice’s participation remains intact, with reports indicating he is still scheduled to perform, proudly contributing to the anniversary celebration.

In light of the escalating attrition among performers, a spokesperson for Freedom 250 insisted that the fair’s mission is essentially apolitical. They emphasized it as a celebration of the nation. Yet doubts linger as the event approaches, with some artists expressing unease about political affiliations that could overshadow the festivities.

As of now, Flo Rida has not publicly commented on the situation.
