Trump Considers Headlining Event After Artist Cancellations
President Trump is contemplating a change in plans for the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, following the withdrawal of several scheduled performers. He mentioned that he could take the stage himself, claiming he would attract a crowd “much larger than Elvis.”
On Saturday, Trump shared his thoughts on hosting a major speech along with an “America is Back” rally. This comes after musicians such as Bret Michaels from Poison, country star Martina McBride, and R&B band The Commodores opted out after the D.C. event lineup was revealed.
“It seems the artists are a bit nervous about performing this Wednesday,” Trump stated on his Truth Social account. He proposed replacing the previously scheduled act with himself, asserting he is the “number one attraction anywhere in the world” and, famously, “does it without a guitar.” He expressed his patriotic fervor, reminding followers of his view as one of the greatest presidents ever while encouraging artists to deliver meaningful speeches for the nation’s progress.
The concert series is set to run from June 25 to July 10 and is backed by Freedom 250, a nonprofit set up by the Trump administration to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary.
Michaels cited safety issues for the band and its fans, noting that what was meant to be a celebration transformed into something divisive that he hadn’t originally signed up for. Similarly, The Commodores confirmed their cancellation, stating in an Instagram post that they prefer not to align with any particular political party, emphasizing the importance of uplifting all Americans. Other artists, like Young MC and Morris Day and The Time, also pulled out of performances scheduled during this time.
Trump stated he is instructing members of the House of Representatives to explore the option of organizing an “America Is Back” rally at the same location and time in Washington, D.C., inviting only “great patriots” to celebrate the nation’s essence.
However, he did not specify the exact date for this potential rally.
