Jewish organization starts new initiative to fight antisemitism

New Initiative Launched to Combat Anti-Semitism

A national pro-Israel Jewish organization is starting a new incubator program aimed at tackling anti-Semitism.

The initiative, from the American Jewish Congress, is designed to identify and support impactful efforts to address the increasing reports of anti-Jewish hate.

“We employ a business-oriented approach, leveraging 21st-century technology and social media to foster connections between communities and enhance the U.S.-Israel relationship,” remarked AJC President Daniel Rosen.

Engaging youth and education is a primary focus. Rosen noted, “Genuine change requires planting seeds, nurturing innovative ideas, and empowering future leaders and visionaries.”

He added, “Our AJCatalyst Lab will develop the talent, projects, and innovations that will influence Jewish life and advocacy for generations ahead.”

The lab aims to offer start-up funding for outreach initiatives, strategic direction, operational help, media support, and access to AJC’s extensive networks, both nationally and internationally.

A team of Impact Investors will oversee a portfolio of selected projects, drawing from experts in law, media, policy, technology, and education, chosen through a competitive selection process.

Rosen discussed the surge in anti-Semitism following Hamas’ recent attack on Israel, suggesting it has unveiled significant “gaps” in the protection of Jewish communities.

“We need a fresh strategic approach,” he emphasized. “It’s not just about loud protests; it’s about being more impactful.”

Education is crucial to the institute’s mission, aiming to equip young people with factual information about Jews and Israel while combating hate speech.

The AJC wants to foster critical thinking among students, encouraging them to take a moment to reflect, as Rosen explained.

Historically, the AJC has been one of the earliest groups in the U.S. advocating for Jewish rights, supporting the establishment of Israel, and warning against the threats of Nazism and the Holocaust in the 1930s. The organization also took action to aid German Jewish immigrants and push for legal protections for Jewish communities.

In the 1960s, the AJC played a part in the civil rights movement, collaborating with Martin Luther King Jr. and other leaders to abolish discriminatory laws and advocate for equality.

Since then, the AJC has concentrated on defending free speech, the separation of church and state, education, women’s rights, LGBT rights, and the rights of Jews globally.
