Democrats Take an Unconventional Approach in Texas Senate Race
In a bid to secure a U.S. Senate seat from Texas after years of waiting, Democrats are turning to a rather unconventional church that espouses progressive values.
James Talarico, a Democratic candidate, often employs religious rhetoric to advocate for far-left initiatives. His church is known for its vocal support of radical LGBTQ+ rights and is involved in funding abortion.
The church describes abortion as a “blessing” and uses contributions to facilitate travel for women seeking abortions outside Texas.
Talarico also delivers sermons at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Austin. Reports indicate that the church collaborates closely with organizations like Planned Parenthood, which aligns with its “vision and goals.”
Additionally, the church backs Out Youth Austin, a group that runs a transgender summer camp and features explicit books in its library for children.
Talarico has expressed his belief that the Bible endorses abortion, citing the importance of consent in a conversation with Joe Rogan. His interpretation is likely at odds with more traditional Christian beliefs prevalent in Texas.
Moreover, the church openly allies with Palestinians in Gaza and supports groups that criticize “Zionism” along with other forms of discrimination.
Talarico is vying for the Senate seat against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has faced his own controversies, including allegations of infidelity. Paxton has actively opposed abortion rights in Texas.
Current polling suggests Paxton holds a slight lead over Talarico. If Talarico manages to secure a surprising victory, it could significantly benefit the Democratic party’s chances in Congress.
