Kathy Hilton from ‘Housewives’ resigns from position at WeHo Pride parade

Kathy Hilton from 'Housewives' resigns from her position at the WeHo Pride parade

The controversy surrounding the Pride Parade has led Kathy Hilton to step back from her role as honorary grand marshal at West Hollywood’s Pride Parade.

On Wednesday, the city of West Hollywood announced that Hilton would no longer be associated with the 2026 WeHo Pride event, a decision that followed weeks of pushback from certain members of the LGBTQ+ community.

In response to the backlash, Hilton expressed her respect for the ongoing discussions regarding her involvement.

“It’s an honor to be recognized, and I deeply appreciate the support from community members over the years,” she said.

She explained that her desire to join WeHo Pride Weekend stemmed from a wish to celebrate and uplift a community that holds significant meaning for many. “Pride is all about highlighting LGBTQ+ voices and experiences,” she noted.

This decision comes in light of Indigenous Pride LA withdrawing from the June 7 parade, citing Hilton as an inappropriate choice for representing Pride.

In a statement on Instagram, the organization remarked that many within their community felt Hilton’s selection did not align with their values or the essence of Pride they strive to embody.

Additional criticism emerged on social media, with some users targeting Hilton for her political connections to Donald Trump, remarking things like “Republicans have no pride” and labeling her as a “MAGA” figure.

Compounding the scrutiny, Hilton faced allegations from former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” co-star Erika Jayne, who claimed that Hilton had used homophobic slurs during a trip to Aspen. Although Hilton denied the accusations, Jayne maintained her stance, insisting the truth of the incident would not change.

Officials from the city issued a statement acknowledging that Pride resonates strongest when it reflects the diversity within the community. They noted that Hilton’s selection had prompted varied opinions across that community.

“After careful consideration, the City of West Hollywood, the WeHo Pride production team, and Kathy Hilton have mutually agreed not to name a Grand Marshal Icon for the 2026 WeHo Pride Parade,” they stated.

In light of the situation, Hilton reaffirmed her commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ causes, asserting that her dedication to the community and WeHo Pride remains steadfast.

Though the Grand Marshal Icon designation will not be awarded this year, the city expressed gratitude towards Hilton and stated that nearly 120 participants will still join the celebrations at the upcoming parade.
