Kathy Hilton from 'Housewives' resigns from her position at the WeHo Pride parade

Pride Parade Controversy Leads to Kathy Hilton’s Withdrawal

The recent Pride Parade controversy, which prompted significant pushback from LGBTQ+ groups, has resulted in Kathy Hilton stepping down from her planned honorary role at the West Hollywood Pride Parade.

On Wednesday, the city of West Hollywood announced that Hilton would no longer be the grand marshal for the 2026 WeHo Pride event, following weeks of criticism from certain LGBTQ+ community members.

Hilton expressed her acknowledgment of the debate over her participation.

“We are honored to receive this recognition and are grateful for the support we have received from community members over the years,” she mentioned in a statement.

“The reason I wanted to be part of WeHo Pride Weekend was straightforward: to celebrate, support, and share the joy of a community that means so much to so many. Pride is about celebrating and uplifting LGBTQ+ voices, experiences, and accomplishments,” she added.

This decision followed Indigenous Pride LA’s withdrawal from the June 7 parade, stating that Hilton was not a suitable representative for Pride.

In their statement on Instagram, the organization remarked, “Many within our Two Spirit, Indidiqua, and Indigenous LGBTQPAI+ circles feel that the selection of this year’s Grand Marshal is not in line with the values, lived experience, and spirit of pride that we strive to uphold.”

Critics also voiced their concerns about Hilton on social media, focusing on her political connections to President Donald Trump, with remarks like “Republicans have no pride” and “She’s a MAGA.”

Hilton faced further scrutiny due to allegations from former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” co-star Erika Jayne, who claimed Hilton used homophobic slurs during a cast trip to Aspen. Though Hilton denied these accusations, Jayne maintained, “I will never recant from the truth of what happened that night at the club in Aspen.”

A statement from city officials noted that Pride “is always strongest when it truly reflects the community” and recognized that Hilton’s selection “created a variety of perspectives across our community.”

The statement continued, “After thoughtful discussion, the City of West Hollywood, the WeHo Pride production team, and Kathy Hilton have decided not to name a Grand Marshal Icon recipient for the 2026 WeHo Pride Parade.”

Hilton reiterated her deep commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ causes, asserting that her backing for the community and WeHo Pride remains “unwavering.”

The city expressed gratitude to Hilton and mentioned that WeHo Pride would continue without a Grand Marshal Icon, inviting nearly 120 participants to this year’s celebratory parade.
