Kirsten Gillibrand does not comment on allegations of misconduct involving Graham Platner

Democrats Stand by Graham Platner Despite Allegations

Democrat Graham Platner is under scrutiny due to allegations of fraud and even claims about Nazi tattoos as Maine’s primary election approaches. Daily Wire opinion writer Chloe Trapanotto criticized him harshly, suggesting that his presence is almost a “gift to the Republican Party,” despite backing from key Democrats. She also touched on issues regarding the Los Angeles mayoral election and ballot harvesting in California.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has notably remained quiet regarding the allegations against Platner, a leading candidate for the Senate, even though she previously led the charge against men accused of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement. His ex-girlfriend described him as having aggressive physical behavior, and an interview with the New York Times provided further details.

Gillibrand’s silence is particularly striking given her past stance on allegations against others, like former Sen. Al Franken, who resigned over similar accusations. At that time, she was vocally critical, emphasizing the need for accountability despite significant pressure from various factions within the party.

In 2017, when allegations against Franken arose, Gillibrand was among those urging him to step down, noting the severity of the claims against him. Following his resignation, Franken expressed a belief that due process was lacking in his situation. Now, observers are questioning how much baggage the Democratic Party is willing to accept from Platner.

Gillibrand has previously affirmed her commitment to hold her own party accountable, even in the face of potential backlash from major donors. Yet, as Platner becomes mired in controversies—including accusations regarding physical misconduct—Gillibrand’s lack of comment raises eyebrows and hints at hypocrisy given her past actions.

According to Lindsay Fifield, Platner’s former partner, he exhibited rough physical behavior during their relationship. She claimed that he would grab her forcefully, leaving marks, and described an incident in which he physically restrained her. Platner’s campaign has denied all allegations.

As the primary draws near, Platner’s reputation is further tainted by allegations about a tattoo linked to Nazi symbolism and inappropriate online behavior. Before these latest claims surfaced, Gillibrand and other Democrats affirmed their support for him. Even now, she insists that she believes the Democratic Party can secure a victory in Maine.

Outside a meeting in Washington, D.C., Platner expressed confidence in his party’s chances, despite the swirling controversies around him. Meanwhile, Gillibrand’s office has yet to respond to requests for comments. The unfolding situation continues to raise questions about the standards Democrats are willing to uphold within their ranks.
