Republican Representative Andy Ogles from Tennessee recently announced that certain members of his communications team faced disciplinary action for making “stupid” and “hurtful” posts on social media.
In a written statement, Ogles explained, “While I was tending to my farm today, my phone started buzzing non-stop because of a post by a communications team member. It was harmful, distracting, and totally out of line with my America First focus. That employee has been reprimanded.” This statement came after an incident involving a post on his X account that stated, “Homosexuality has no place in America. Happy Nuclear Family Month.”
This has led to considerable backlash. Notably, Republican Representative Mike Lawler from New York responded by saying, “Homosexuality exists in America. Andy, you have family, friends, neighbors, and constituents who identify as gay or lesbian. That doesn’t make them any less American. That statement is simply ridiculous.”
Ogles’ controversial post appears to have been deleted from X. Lawler, meanwhile, affirmed his support for the LGBTQ community by sending out a “Happy Pride Month” message for those celebrating in June. He expressed that June represents a chance to embrace love, acceptance, and the right to be oneself.
Governor Bill Lee has also been in the news, having signed a resolution that designates June 2026 as Nuclear Family Month. This resolution has drawn attention in conjunction with Ogles’ recent comments.
