Trump Promises Strong Response to Iran After Helicopter Incident
President Donald Trump indicated on Wednesday that the U.S. would take decisive action against Iran, stating the country would be “hit very hard” amid accusations that Iran was stalling on nuclear negotiations and targeting a U.S. military helicopter.
While signing the American Security Act in the Oval Office, Trump was prompted about an earlier social media post in which he declared that Iran was taking too long to reach a deal and insisted that “now they must pay the price!!!”
“We’re going to hit them hard,” he told reporters, referencing the recent incident where Iranian forces shot down a U.S. military helicopter.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), two crew members from an AH-64 Apache helicopter were rescued after the aircraft went down near Oman while conducting patrols. Fortunately, both soldiers were retrieved safely within a couple of hours.
Trump further mentioned that the U.S. military carried out a self-defense strike against Iran, following his orders after the helicopter was downed.
“We hit them hard yesterday, and we’re going to hit them hard today,” Trump declared.
He commented on the possibility of a deal between the U.S. and Iran, claiming they had been “really close” but suggesting that Tehran was “leading us on” and “playing with us.”
When asked whether the U.S. would target specific infrastructure in Iran, such as power plants or bridges, Trump opted not to disclose any plans.
“Our country has the strongest military anywhere in the world,” he stated. “And sometimes you just have to use it.”
He reiterated that Iran cannot be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. “They agreed to it,” he said, emphasizing that all that was needed was for the Iranian government to sign the deal.
Trump described the negotiations as “fully negotiated,” expressing frustration that Iran seemed to be prolonging the process. He mentioned he would consider allowing a few more days for Iran, as the eventual signed agreement is of great significance.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that Iran’s military is in “complete and utter disarray,” claiming many elements of their forces no longer exist and that they are all talk with little action. “The Middle East bully is dead!!!” he proclaimed, reflecting on the delays in negotiations as something Iran would now have to answer for.
