Golf legend Phil Mickelson defends himself against sexual accusations

Phil Mickelson Denies Touching Allegations at California Golf Club

Phil Mickelson, the famed golfer, is pushing back against claims that he inappropriately touched a female employee at a high-end golf club in Southern California this year. His attorney asserts that video footage contradicts these allegations.

The six-time major champion is accused of making “nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact” with a staff member at Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe. After the alleged incident, the employee reportedly told her supervisor about it.

Mickelson, who is 55, has engaged notable defamation lawyer Tom Clare to contest the allegations, emphasizing that the video evidence suggests otherwise.

“There is a great deal of misinformation out there,” Clare stated, adding that Mickelson, while focused on personal family health issues, is eager to address false rumors and hold those spreading them accountable.

Following the accusations, Mickelson was reportedly removed from the club and lost his long-time membership. Farms Golf Club mentioned that a thorough investigation had been conducted prior to this decision and stands by it.

Contrary to the accusations, law enforcement officials indicated they couldn’t find any supporting evidence pertaining to the sexual assault claim. A spokesperson for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office noted that they hadn’t received any formal reports regarding such incidents at the club and found no evidence indicating an assault took place.

“The Sheriff’s Office will absolutely investigate further if additional evidence or information is provided,” the spokesperson said, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

A San Diego local, Mickelson has a longstanding relationship with Farms Golf Club, where he practiced for major tournaments and played frequently over the years.

Earlier in the year, Mickelson stepped back from professional golf, citing family health concerns. His last appearance on the tour was at LIV Golf South Africa in March.

He joined LIV Golf after departing from the PGA Tour in 2022.
