Trump Supports Mike Collins in Georgia Senate Race

Mike Collins Tops Derek Dooley in Initial Poll Following GOP Primary in Georgia Senate Race

Trump Endorses Mike Collins in Georgia Senate Race

President Donald Trump announced his endorsement for U.S. Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) in the Georgia Senate race on Sunday, just days ahead of the Republican runoff elections scheduled for June 16.

Both Trump and Collins commented on their entry into the political arena on their birthdays, celebrating “MAGA” Mike Collins as “a well-respected congressman who has supported me from the start.” Collins is currently vying for a seat in Georgia’s 10th Congressional District against Derek Dooley, a first-time candidate and former football coach who has the backing of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R-Ga.).

“Mike has the backing of many esteemed MAGA supporters across Georgia and elsewhere, along with numerous Republicans in Congress. He’s a fighter and a victor!” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.

In his endorsement, Trump lauded Collins’ efforts regarding the economy and border security. Collins sponsored the Laken Riley Act, named after a nursing student from his district who tragically lost her life due to an illegal immigrant released under the Biden administration. Collins noted that the legislation “helped remove over 20,000 criminal aliens from our streets.”

“As your next senator, Mike will strive to boost our economy, reduce taxes and regulations, promote American manufacturing, support our military and veterans, ensure election integrity, and secure our borders,” Trump added.

Trump characterized Collins as “America First,” contrasting him with Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff, labeling him a “weak senator” who has attempted to raise taxes. Ossoff, first elected in 2021, has been labeled one of the most vulnerable Democrats seeking re-election.

“Ossoff has supported policies that promote open borders and has raised taxes significantly, which has harmed the American economy,” Trump criticized. “He’s a proponent of letting criminals flood into our country unchecked.”

“We simply can’t allow that! I established our borders stronger than ever, and Mike Collins has stood with me throughout,” Trump asserted.

Continuing his critique, Trump described Ossoff as someone who backs lenient policies, including cashless bail, allowing repeat offenders to roam free. He dismissed Ossoff as a “radical leftist lunatic” who doesn’t represent Georgia’s values.

Reflecting on past experiences, Trump recalled defeating Ossoff in a previous election, stating that Collins must first overcome his Republican opponent before facing Ossoff.

On Dooley, Trump remarked, “I don’t know him, but he seems like a decent person.” However, he pointed out that Dooley had spent much of his life outside Georgia and hadn’t voted in previous elections, questioning his commitment to the state.

“Mike Collins is a true ally and warrior who’s been with us from the beginning, and I wholeheartedly support him as your next senator,” Trump emphasized.

Collins expressed gratitude for Trump’s support, mentioning, “It means a lot to me to have your trust as we ensure our values are represented in the Senate.” He also recalled meeting Trump for the first time at a small event on Trump’s birthday, jokingly reflecting on the coincidence of their celebrations.

The runoff race will feature Collins and Dooley after no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote in the primary held on May 19. Collins led the primary with 40.5%, followed by Dooley at 30.2%.

As the elections near, recent polls indicate a competitive atmosphere, with Collins positioned as a strong contender against Ossoff, trailing slightly in the general election projections.

Collins noted the importance of grassroots campaigning, claiming success across all Georgia counties. He emphasized the need for a Republican senator who truly embodies the values of the state.

While Trump has held back his endorsement until now, he has been closely watching the race. He previously showed support for other candidates in Georgia, including Lieutenant Governor Bert Jones for the gubernatorial election.
