A former member of the U.S. Army National Guard has entered a guilty plea for the fatal shooting of an Army soldier after finding him in bed with his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child.
Natravian R. Landry, 27, pleaded guilty on June 11 to second-degree murder as well as using a firearm during a violent crime in the death of U.S. Army Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr. This incident took place at Fort Eisenhower—currently Fort Gordon—in Augusta, Georgia.
Federal prosecutors indicated that Landry could face a prison term ranging from a minimum of 10 years to a life sentence.
The shooting occurred on December 14, 2024, in the morning at an apartment within the military base.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, Landry had been on a training mission and visited the woman’s home while on a break.
Witnesses reported that upon arriving, Landry saw a black truck outside the apartment and inquired about its owner.
Believing another man was inside, Landry forced his way into the apartment, heading to an upstairs bedroom where he found Stewart, who was involved with the woman at that time.
The woman mentioned that they were asleep when they heard the disturbance, and there were two children present during the incident.
Aware that Stewart was unarmed, Landry shot him once in the chest, resulting in Stewart’s death.
After the incident, Landry fled the scene and the military installation but was apprehended by the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop on Interstate 85.
During this stop, he discarded the firearm out of the window, which was later recovered by the officers. Forensics confirmed that this gun was used in the shooting.
Landry confessed to the act during an interview conducted after he was read his rights.
The woman informed investigators that Landry had been jealous of Stewart.
In the wake of the tragedy, Stewart’s sister expressed grief, describing her brother as having been “horribly murdered,” and highlighted that he left behind a 5-year-old son, who was one of the children present at the time.
A date for Landry’s sentencing has yet to be announced.
