Joy Reid’s Warning About Trump’s Media Impact

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid delivered a passionate address on Sunday, cautioning that President Donald Trump and his supporters are attempting to reshape American media in a way that resembles North Korea.

This took place during an event called “Stand Up, Sing: A Concert for the First Amendment,” where actress Jane Fonda and a number of other celebrities were present. Meanwhile, Trump was hosting a UFC event at the White House, and the country is gearing up to celebrate its 250th anniversary.

In her speech, Reid criticized Trump, referring to him as the “orange hole,” and asserted that “the threat is not coming, the threat is here.” She referenced the firing and arrest of several notable media figures, stating, “Don Lemon was arrested, Georgia Fort was arrested, Terry Moran was fired from ABC, Scott Pelley was fired from CBS.” She elaborated on the involvement of far-right individuals who purchased media companies, hinting that they may soon hand control to Bari Weiss, prompting jeers from the audience.

Reid declared, “This is the corporate media on its knees.” She described how a few billionaires are consolidating local news outlets and national networks, transforming journalism into what she fears might turn into the U.S. version of North Korean propaganda.

“They want to scare us,” she continued. “Trump aims for us to shrink back when he derides us as twisted and stupid. Barbara Walters, now that would have been different. Rest in peace, Barbara.” Her sentiments were punctuated by her rallying cry, “We’re not scared, we’re not scared!”

She encouraged the audience to embrace independent media voices, stating that “the way forward is independent media and independent voices that are not intimidated.”

Jane Fonda’s Call to Action

During the same event, Jane Fonda used her platform to advocate for activism, suggesting that voters should support the “NO KINGS” protest, warning that America is at an “existential” crossroads.

Reid concluded her remarks by urging those present to support left-leaning journalists like Lemon and former CNN anchor Jim Acosta, who recently compared the removal of Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center to the fall of the Berlin Wall. “We’re not shrinking, we’re growing! So let’s be louder, be bolder, stand up and sing loud!”

Fox News Digital sought comments from CBS and the White House but did not receive immediate responses.
