Eleven Years Since Trump’s Candidacy Announcement

On June 16, 2015, Donald Trump made a memorable entrance by descending a golden escalator at Trump Tower to announce his campaign for the presidency, an event that would have lasting impacts on the political scene.

Accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump and introduced by his daughter, Ivanka Trump, he stood before a crowd eager for political change.

During his announcement, Trump introduced his campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” commonly referred to as “MAGA,” which ignited a movement that significantly altered the American political landscape.

Following his campaign, Trump was inaugurated as the 45th president and later became the 47th after winning the presidency against Kamala Harris in 2024.

In office, he enacted what he described as the largest tax cut for the middle class, took measures to reduce domestic energy prices, classified illegal fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction, tackled international drug trafficking, and strengthened immigration controls at the southern border, including the expansion of the border wall.

He also launched initiatives focused on conservation under a new slogan, “Make America Beautiful Again.”

One of the most enduring aspects of Trump’s presidency was the overhaul of the judicial system; he appointed three Supreme Court justices who contributed to significant rulings, including the overturning of Roe v. Wade, along with more than 200 federal judges that leaned more conservatively.

Looking back, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 stands out as a landmark legislative achievement. In the following term, the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) in 2025 made these tax cuts permanent, which was seen as a significant victory for government accountability by breaking through a history of bureaucratic stagnation, empowering the American populace.

Trump’s administration shifted from free trade to protectionism, setting aside agreements like NAFTA and USMCA and adopting tariffs on steel and aluminum to encourage domestic production and protect vital industries.

Domestic producers and workers in industrial areas have argued that these policies prevented factories from being overwhelmed by inexpensive foreign metals, particularly from China, supporting a sector crucial for national security.

Key Achievements and Administration Claims

Border security and immigration enforcement were touted as major accomplishments. Building extensive sections of the border wall during his first term led to initiatives in his second term aimed at curbing birthright citizenship and implementing significant deportations.

His administration also launched the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), touting reductions in redundant federal roles and substantial cuts to government expenditure as steps toward greater accountability.

The administration’s energy policy, described as “drill, baby, drill,” aimed to eliminate hindrances on federal lands while promoting traditional energy sources, which officials claimed represented a significant economic advantage for the U.S.

On the international front, Trump emphasized a new foreign policy approach that avoided extensive military entanglements while projecting strength; this included initiatives like the Abraham Accords, reflecting a strategy that intertwined peace efforts with military readiness against adversaries.
