JD Vance visits Long Island and criticizes the local congressman while promising to eliminate fraud

Vice President J.D. Vance Criticizes Rep. Tom Suozzi During Long Island Visit

On Wednesday, Vice President J.D. Vance made a stop in Long Island where he targeted local Republican Representative Tom Suozzi, pledging his commitment to assist the Trump administration in combating corruption.

In his address in Bethpage, Nassau County, Vance emphasized Republican Congressional candidate Mike LiPetri, suggesting that Suozzi seemed more invested in his personal finances than in serving the public.

Vance remarked at his Gold Coast studio, “If you’re looking for a Congressman who will truly advocate for you in Washington, D.C., Michael LiPetri is your choice. But if you’re after an asset manager, you might as well follow Suozzi, because he appears more comfortable managing stocks from behind a desk than actually representing the people.”

Vance also pointed to the Trump administration’s strategies as having contributed to a decline in the murder rate through its rigorous approach to illegal immigration.

Later in the day, Suozzi responded during a media briefing, defending his reputation as an investor, noting his stock portfolio’s impressive performance, which reportedly outperformed other Democrats in Congress last year, per alternative data sources.

Vance criticized stock trading among Congress members, saying, “We need representatives who focus on legislation that benefits people’s lives, not those who profit from public trust.” He added, “Rather than enriching themselves, they should be working to improve the financial well-being of their constituents.”

He also highlighted crime and fraud issues while endorsing LiPetri, who is in a primary contest against fellow Republican Greg Hatch this month. “I appreciate that Mike LiPetri shares my commitment to addressing fraud,” Vance noted, mentioning that he was introduced to LiPetri by Nassau County Executive and Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman.

Vance expressed his belief in the old-fashioned notion of good governance, stating that taxes should fund services and national security that citizens deserve.

This commentary followed allegations against Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration, which faced accusations of manipulating bids related to an $11 billion Medicaid home health program. The state health department dismissed the claims as unfounded.

Vance linked the state’s drop in homicide rates to efforts to remove illegal criminals and bolster law enforcement.

LiPetri later expressed gratitude for Vance’s endorsement, stating he was “truly honored,” especially given Vance’s commitment to preventing the misuse of taxpayer money.

Vance criticized the federal government for wasting resources, claiming the Democrats lack accountability. “They treat each dollar as if it were their own,” he remarked.

Historically, the Republican had a narrow defeat against Suozzi in the recent past, losing by a small margin during a special election to fill a seat left vacant by former Representative George Santos.

Suozzi countered Vance’s attacks later that evening in a Zoom call with reporters, describing the Vice President as “a charlatan, an amateur, a childish person, and a liar.” He opted not to engage on the stock trading topic but dismissed Vance’s event as a political rally disguised as an official gathering, issuing a challenge for a debate.

“It was clearly a political smear job,” Suozzi asserted, urging the Vice President to engage him directly on the administration’s policies and their impacts on constituents. “The residents of this district know me well and are aware of the absurd allegations you’ve made today,” he concluded.
