Advocacy group asks FTC to investigate APA’s care of transgender children

Dr. Curt Miceli, the chief medical officer of Do No Harm, has voiced his concerns regarding the American Psychological Association’s (APA) mixed signals about gender-affirming care for young people. His organization pointed out contradictions in APA’s communications from 2024 and 2025, now urging the Federal Trade Commission to investigate claims that the APA has enabled gender reassignment procedures for minors.

On Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) along with four Republican-led states, filed a lawsuit against the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), alleging that the group misled caregivers and medical professionals about the safety and necessity of transgender medical treatments for minors.

The lawsuit claims that WPATH, which provides widely referenced guidelines for treating individuals with gender dysphoria, did not sufficiently reveal possible risks and side effects. Furthermore, it was accused of making false assertions regarding puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries for gender reassignment.

“Parents should have the right to make well-informed choices about their children’s health,” FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson expressed on X. “We won’t permit any form of deceit by medical entities that prioritize profit over the well-being of children.”

‘Transgender insanity’ condemned after Congress bans taxpayer funding

The lawsuit, which includes Alaska, Iowa, Nebraska, and Texas, continues the scrutiny of medical practices for transgender minors launched by the administration of former President Trump.

Previously, WPATH filed a lawsuit aiming to prevent the FTC’s investigation, asserting a violation of its First Amendment rights. A federal judge issued a temporary block on the investigation in May.

Senator Hawley warns it would be ‘unconscionable’ if billions of taxpayers’ money went towards changing the gender of transgender children

WPATH has refuted the claims, stating that its guidelines are designed to support personalized patient care rather than adopt a blanket approach to treatment. In a statement to The Associated Press, they emphasized the importance of individualized healthcare.

Fox News Digital reached out for further comment from WPATH but has not received a response at this time.

In its statement, WPATH argued that it is well-equipped to prove that the FTC’s actions are retaliatory and part of an ongoing campaign against gender-affirming healthcare, infringing upon the rights of professional medical organizations.

This lawsuit emerges amid a broader dialogue concerning the use of puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and sex reassignment surgery for youths. Advocates argue that such treatments may be essential for certain individuals, while opponents highlight the unclear long-term risks and question whether minors can truly give informed consent.
