The family of Davey Chase, known for her role in “Lilo & Stitch,” is skeptical about a GoFundMe set up by her boyfriend after she passed away recently.
Her relatives argued that there was no need for a fundraiser, claiming they had “sufficient means” for her funeral arrangements. John Ryan, her agent and longtime friend, expressed concerns about the legitimacy of the campaign.
Roy Hernandez, her boyfriend, initiated the fundraiser after Chase died in the hospital from meningitis-related complications.
However, her family distanced themselves, stating they were not affiliated with the fundraiser and suggested that Hernandez was exploiting the situation for personal gain.
Ryan reaffirmed, “This so-called ‘boyfriend,’ known to none of her friends or family, has started a GoFundMe for Davey.”
They reported the campaign to GoFundMe, which was still active as of Thursday morning. The fundraiser has garnered over $4,000, with Hernandez’s name appearing in the profile’s URL, which identifies Chase as “the original voice of Lilo.”
The “What they value” section curiously states, “Lilo, now that times have moved on… I hope I’ve made a lot of people happy. Now I need help.”
Video footage from months prior showcased Chase in a troubling state, appearing very thin and battling addiction on Skid Row. She was admitted to Los Angeles General Medical Center on June 7; her father learned of her critical condition and rushed from Las Vegas only to discover she had passed away.
Suspicious of Hernandez and his motivations, her father considered contacting the police, fearing he might be after Chase’s financial assets.
Chase’s situation raises further questions. Her manager, too, expressed doubts about Hernandez’s intentions, suggesting that the narrative he presents is more about financial gain than care. Hernandez defended the GoFundMe, claiming it’s entirely legitimate.
Chase left behind a complex legacy, including unclaimed checks from her acting career, and her friends lament that they were unable to reach her before it was too late.
