Joy Reid on Voting and U.S.-Israel Relations

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid stated in a recent interview that she will no longer support any Democrat who doesn’t commit to severing ties with Israel. She expressed strong sentiments about this on a podcast with author Ta-Nehisi Coates, highlighting the unwavering connection Democrats have with Israel, despite its controversial actions.

“Democrats are really tied to Israel in every way. No matter what happens or how many lives are affected, that bond seems unbreakable. It’s going to require a significant shift within the party to make any changes,” she noted.

The conversation also touched on former Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy. Coates pointed out that some Arab and Muslim American voters switched their allegiance to Trump in the 2024 election, driven by frustrations with the Biden-Harris administration.

Reid firmly emphasized her stance, saying, “Moving forward, voting for a Democrat who doesn’t promise to end this relationship is not an option for me. This relationship needs to be reevaluated. Israel doesn’t need our support, financially or otherwise.”

Media Concerns and Criticism

Reid has also voiced strong criticisms about the current media landscape. At a recent event, she warned that the influence of former President Trump could ultimately reshape U.S. media into something akin to a propaganda machine. She pointed out alarming trends, citing incidents involving journalists and media figures being arrested or dismissed.

“We are seeing a consolidation of media power in the hands of a few billionaires, which risks turning American journalism into a version of North Korean propaganda,” she said, voicing her deep concerns about the future of media in America.

Personal Reflections

In an earlier discussion, Reid expressed disappointment over her ability to support the New York Giants after quarterback Jackson Dart’s introduction of Trump at an event. “I used to cheer for them, but now, honestly, I just can’t. The real Donald Trump isn’t a typical president; he embodies a desire for kingship. This year marks our independence from monarchical rule, and yet, here we are.”
