85-Year-Old Man Arrested for Allegedly Speeding in Street Race
An 85-year-old man was arrested in Florida for allegedly reaching speeds of 110 mph while engaged in a street race with a red Corvette driver.
William Bosworth had quite the response when pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy in Lake County. He reportedly said, “I was born at night, but not last night.”
While enjoying a cigar, Bosworth stated he was just taking “a short ride in my favorite car.” Unfortunately for him, he now faces charges of racing and dangerously exceeding the speed limit.
According to details from the sheriff’s office, a deputy observed two cars that seemed to be racing on Route 27 and County Route 33 in Leesburg around 11:40 p.m. on June 12. The deputy’s radar clocked the red Corvette at 125 mph and Bosworth’s gray sports car at 110 mph—both in a 45 mph zone.
When stopped, Bosworth defended himself by claiming the Corvette had swerved towards him, prompting his high speed to avoid trouble.
On body camera footage, the deputy responded, “You can tell by the street racing.” Bosworth was subsequently handcuffed.
The driver of the Corvette, 57-year-old Philip Signorino from Titusville, was also arrested for similar charges. He denied the high speed initially but later referred to himself as the driver of a “winning Corvette” once in jail.
Both Bosworth and Signorino denied any street racing involvement and later posted bail.
