Disney and Trump: ABC Launches On-Air Campaign for Viewer Backing Amid FCC Inquiry into Network's Democratic Ties

ABC’s Campaign to Defend The View

ABC is actively working to bolster support for its daytime talk show, The View. Recently, it launched television advertisements encouraging viewers to contact the FCC to express their backing for the show, which has been labeled as promoting left-wing viewpoints by some critics.

The network is currently facing several defamation lawsuits involving the FCC, heading a campaign led by Brendan Carr, a commissioner appointed by President Trump. Other ABC programs, like Jimmy Kimmel Live!, are also reportedly seeking repercussions for the network, citing violations of rules regarding equal airtime for opposing perspectives.

On Monday, ABC aired its first advertisement, urging fans to inform the FCC that The View qualifies as “genuine” news content. Reports indicate that this ad will also appear online.

The ad features a quote stating, “The View has welcomed our favorite guests for nearly 30 years. Now the FCC is trying to control who’s allowed on the show. Please tell the FCC to let viewers decide,” complemented by footage of Barbara Walters, one of the program’s original hosts.

Walters was instrumental in founding the show back in 1997 but had stepped away from the panel in 2014 and passed away in 2022. It’s been quite a while since her involvement.

ABC is also promoting its message through additional advertisements on its main station, WABC in New York, urging viewers to signal to the FCC that the network serves as a crucial communication resource for East Coast residents.

The message states, “ABC7 has proudly served the New York area for more than 75 years. Now, the FCC is questioning our commitment by threatening to take us off the air. Use your voice to tell the FCC that New York deserves to keep its trusted local station WABC.”

Furthermore, the network is running ads supporting its outlets in other major cities like KABC-TV in Los Angeles, WLS-TV in Chicago, WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, KTRK-TV in Houston, KGO-TV in San Francisco, WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and KFSN-TV in Fresno, California.

Supporters of Trump are calling on the FCC to revoke ABC’s broadcasting license due to what they see as biased reporting and an inclination towards pro-Democratic programming.
