Florida Man Arrested for Kidnapping Teenager
A man from Florida has been taken into custody on accusations of kidnapping a teenage girl from her home in Key Largo and concealing her in a clothes dryer, according to officials.
Christopher Michael Fite, 53, faces multiple charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment, and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, as reported by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident was reported around 11:45 a.m. on Sunday when the alleged victim managed to call 911 to say she was being held against her will.
Upon arriving, investigators discovered the girl hiding inside a clothes dryer at the residence. It’s shocking to think about that, really.
Authorities revealed that Fite restrained the girl before placing her in the dryer. Reports indicate he also took her cell phone after she expressed her desire to leave the house.
The girl was found with injuries that, though concerning, were not life-threatening, the sheriff’s office stated.
Interestingly, while the victim was not a local resident, the nature of her relationship with Fite remained unclear to officials right away.
Investigators noted evidence suggesting an ongoing sexual relationship between the two. Following her rescue, the teen was taken to a local hospital for examination and subsequently placed in her family’s care.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was alerted regarding the situation. Detectives collected various pieces of evidence at the scene, including counterfeit bills. It’s unclear what role those items played in the incident.
Moreover, the U.S. Secret Service has been informed about the findings. The investigation is ongoing, and it’s possible that further charges could be added as more information comes to light.
