Comedian Larry David Criticizes Trump’s UFC Celebration
Comedian Larry David recently voiced his disapproval of President Donald Trump’s UFC event at the White House, which was held to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. He didn’t hold back, stating it made him feel “embarrassed to be American.”
In an interview, David described the situation as a “travesty,” suggesting there really wasn’t much more to say about it. The 78-year-old comedian elaborated on his feelings of unpatriotism stemming from the event.
Trump’s 80th Birthday Celebration
Trump celebrated his 80th birthday with the UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn of the White House, attended by about 4,300 guests, including 1,200 active military personnel. The event featured a performance of the national anthem by Zac Brown and concluded with a flyover from the Navy Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds.
Reflecting on the celebration, David continued, “It was embarrassing. I was embarrassed to be American.” His comments came during the premiere of HBO’s new series, “Life, Rally, and the Pursuit of Misfortune,” which satirizes significant moments in U.S. history. This series is set to debut on June 26 and boasts celebrity guests, including Jerry Seinfeld and Barack Obama, with Obama’s company, Higher Ground, producing the show.
While discussing the event, David noted that Obama was “really good at improvising.”
A Unique Sports Celebration
Trump defended the UFC bout, claiming it was something unprecedented in the sports world. As he headed to the Group of Seven summit in France, he added, “This was something that no one in the world of sports has ever seen before.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for additional comments regarding the event.
