Todd Blanche Critiques Illinois Governor Over Federal Aid in Chicago

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has expressed his concerns about the alarming violence levels in Chicago, noting that over the weekend, eight individuals lost their lives and numerous others were injured. He has taken aim at Illinois Governor JB Pritzker for what he describes as a refusal to seek federal assistance. In his criticism, Blanche compared the crime situation in Chicago to successful safety initiatives in places like Washington, D.C., and Memphis, underscoring the need for collaboration between local and federal entities to effectively combat violence.

This violent weekend drew the attention of President Trump as well. Six people were reported dead, and 39 others suffered injuries from various shootings across the city. One particularly frightening incident involved a drive-by shooting in Princeton Park on Friday night, where 13 individuals were harmed when suspects fired from an SUV into a crowd, resulting in multiple hospitalizations.

In the wake of the tragic events, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson shared his feelings on X, stating, “I am heartbroken by last night’s violence at Princeton Park.” He emphasized that what was intended to be a night for Juneteenth celebrations turned into a scene of tragedy, conveying his thoughts and prayers for those affected.

President Trump also weighed in, questioning why Governor Pritzker hasn’t reached out for federal assistance, asserting, “I can make Chicago a safe city in a month or a year.” His claims suggest that he believes improvements can be attained as quickly as those seen in Washington, D.C.

Overall, violence in Chicago has sparked a broader debate about the role of state and federal government in tackling crime, with ongoing investigations into all shooting incidents by local police.
