Auston Trusty's spouse shares a one-word response to his goal in the World Cup.

On Thursday night, Auston Trusty scored early, giving the U.S. men’s national team yet another quick lead in their match.

For Trusty and his wife, Emily, this moment was particularly significant.

Emily shared on her Instagram Story that it meant “everything” to her, expressing her pride in her husband’s achievement.

The goal came from a corner kick taken by Sebastian Berhalter. Trusty was quick to react, sending the ball past Turkish goalkeeper Uglucan Çakir into the net.

The U.S. team took the lead a mere 2 minutes and 30 seconds into the match, marking it as the second-fastest goal ever recorded by the United States in a FIFA World Cup.

This was a notable achievement following Clint Dempsey’s swift goal just 30 seconds into a game against Ghana back in 2014.

It was also a milestone for Trusty, who celebrated his first international goal in his first World Cup, becoming the first player from the Philadelphia Union to score at this level.

Emily was by Trusty’s side during the match. The coach, Mauricio Pochettino, had opted for a new lineup, experimenting with his roster for future rounds.

Trusty had proposed to Emily during a vacation in Italy last May, and they welcomed their daughter in April 2025. They recently celebrated their eighth anniversary in May 2026.

Trusty’s goal further intensified a trend, as the U.S. team has now scored in the opening 10 minutes of three consecutive matches in this World Cup. However, Turkey quickly leveled the score shortly afterward with a goal from Arda Güler, subsequently taking the lead before halftime.

Berhalter’s efforts helped maintain the score at 2-2 for a while during the second half. Unfortunately, Turkey delivered a disappointing late goal during stoppage time, marking the end of the group stage for the U.S.

From a practical perspective, the match held little significance for either team. Turkey was already out of contention, and the United States had assured its place in the knockout rounds.

Despite twisting his ankle and feeling hamstring spasms during the game, Trusty continued to play to avoid forcing the team to use a substitute.

The U.S. is set to clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1.
