A man from San Diego, who has a fascination with mushrooms, has acknowledged that he gave his two children, aged 9 and 11, psilocybin mushrooms to help them achieve altered states of consciousness.
Randall Vance entered a guilty plea to several drug-related offenses in federal court on Friday. He is accused of running a drug trafficking operation that involved his children in cultivating, producing, and distributing psilocybin mushrooms in the Fallbrook and Bonsall regions of San Francisco.
It’s reported that he provided his kids with mushrooms daily.
Additionally, Vance allegedly supplied his older son with psilocybin capsules to sell to his younger peers. His wife, Rebecca Vance, aged 42, became involved as a business partner, along with her friend Kia Ceballos Rivera.
The trio reportedly sold whole and freeze-dried mushrooms via an Instagram account and two websites: psillyrabbit.com and psillyrabbitmushrooms.com. They also created chocolate items infused with hallucinogenic mushrooms.
On October 4, 2024, law enforcement conducted searches at two of Vance’s business locations in Fallbrook and Bonsall. During the search at the Ash Street site, authorities seized 204 pounds of fresh psilocybin mushrooms, 53 pounds of dried mushrooms, 18 pounds of inoculated substrate, along with processing equipment.
At a scene on Lilac Road, they found 25 pounds of dried mushrooms, 5 pounds of capsules, and six unsecured firearms, including a Glock 34 and various other weapons. A loaded magazine was discovered next to one of the pistols.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs was over $200,000 at the time of the raid.
Vance could face a maximum of 40 years in prison for using a minor in drug trafficking, an additional 40 years for giving controlled substances to a child, along with further decades for distribution and obstruction charges.
