Ukraine Strikes Industrial Facility in Volgograd

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Saturday that Ukraine had targeted a significant industrial site in Volgograd, Russia, while a Russian drone attack resulted in a fatality in northeastern Ukraine’s Sumy region.

As the conflict nears its fifth year, Ukraine has intensified long-range airstrikes on Russia’s military and energy infrastructure. The aim appears to be to diminish Russia’s war funding and to make the Russian populace experience the impacts of the invasion.

Zelenskiy claimed in a post that an FP-5 Flamingo missile hit the Titan Barikady facility in Volgograd, referring to it as a “major industrial complex” where Russia produces specialized military gear, including components for artillery and missile launch systems.

This facility manufactures gear for missile systems, including self-propelled launch platforms and transportation vehicles for the Iskander-M missile system. Ukraine’s General Staff pointed out that this is the same system Russia employs to strike Ukrainian cities.

Governor Andrei Bocharov of Volgograd confirmed that an attack occurred on a business in the Krasnuktyabrsky district, reporting that ten individuals suffered injuries and were hospitalized. While he noted damage to production facilities, he did not disclose the names of the companies involved.

This strike followed what is thought to be Ukraine’s largest drone assault on Kiev since the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion, which began over four years ago. On Friday, Moscow’s Defense Ministry reported that extensive nighttime strikes had targeted more than a dozen Russian regions, including Crimea, with air defenses intercepting 660 Ukrainian drones.

Zelenskiy mentioned on Thursday that he had ordered a “40-day influence operation,” which likely represents an escalation in efforts to “compel (Russia) to end the war,” especially after U.S. peace attempts over the last year have not achieved significant outcomes.

In the Sumy region, a 66-year-old man lost his life after a Russian drone struck a house overnight, as confirmed by regional chief Ole Frikholov on Saturday.
