Tragic Alligator Attack in Puerto Vallarta
A distressing video has emerged showing a large alligator attacking a 28-year-old man from Puerto Vallarta, witnessed by a couple from California.
The grainy footage, filmed at night, depicts the massive creature with its jaws wide open near the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa right after the incident.
This unfortunate event took place on Marina Vallarta Beach around 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Jalisco State Police have only identified the victim as being from Mexico, who was at the resort for business purposes.
His body was found approximately 12 hours later, early Saturday morning.
Jamie Yetter, along with her fiancé Chris Berry and their teenage daughter, was relaxing by the hotel pool when they suddenly heard screams originating from the beach.
Yetter thought someone was caught in a rip current, prompting Chris to rush towards the water, and she quickly followed. Berry jumped into a kayak, albeit without a paddle, in a desperate attempt to reach the man.
“We didn’t have any oars. There wasn’t really anything on the beach to help us. We were just scrambling and trying to do the best we could,” Berry reflected. He described being in the kayak as the victim was being dragged away.
Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the Orange County family could not save the man.
Yetter expressed her frustration, stating, “They didn’t tell anyone it was dangerous.”
She noted that signs along the beach warned about jellyfish, stingrays, and crocodiles in the water, but the family had initially mistaken the crocodile symbols for warnings about iguanas.
“They didn’t warn us explicitly not to swim. We honestly thought the beach would be closed the next morning. It wasn’t, and there were no signs indicating not to swim,” Yetter mentioned.
By Saturday morning, the same beach was bustling with bathers, and families were back in the water.
