Incident Involving Elderly Air Force Veteran in Pearland, Texas

This month, a 79-year-old Air Force veteran was assaulted and robbed right after withdrawing cash from an ATM in Pearland, Texas. A cellphone video captured a young boy taking the victim’s wallet during the encounter.

The incident unfolded outside a Walgreens on June 19, with the video showing the victim lying on the ground in the parking lot. “How scary,” some locals reacted. “I know that place; I visit it when I’m around.”

The veteran told the police that he believed withdrawing cash from the store would be safer. However, he expressed concerns that he might have been watched. After leaving the store, he was attacked, but he managed to escape with only minor injuries.

Pearland police confirmed that the suspect in the video is a juvenile. The department stated that an investigation is underway to apprehend the individual. The video was removed from their Facebook page due to the suspect’s age.

On the day of the robbery, officers responded to the Walgreens located on Shadow Creek Parkway. Upon investigation, they found that the veteran had just withdrawn cash from the nearby ATM and was returning to his vehicle when an unidentified male, described as a black man wearing a white shirt and black pants, approached him and assaulted him. The attacker stole his wallet along with the cash.

Following the incident, detectives quickly identified and arrested two other individuals connected to the robbery:

Donte Bell, 30, from Houston, was the driver of the getaway vehicle and has been charged with aggravated robbery.

DeMontra Moore, 23, also from Houston, acted as the lookout and has similarly been charged.

The Special Investigations Unit of the Pearland Police Department is continuing to investigate the situation. Various viewers commented on KHOU’s video displaying the final moments of the assault. Some of the comments included:
