Mark Dice Questions Amazon’s Removal of His Book
Conservative commentator Mark Dice has raised concerns regarding Amazon’s reasoning for the removal of his best-selling book, criticizing the broader conservative media’s lack of engagement with the issue.
Following the brief disappearance of his book, which focuses on the struggles of conservatives, Amazon informed the Daily Caller that the removal was a mistake. However, the company did not offer further clarification on this so-called error, which also affected two separate appeals filed by Dice. “Honestly, they’re full of it,” he remarked in a follow-up.
Dice argued that if the removal was indeed an error, one of his initial appeals would have rectified it. He noted that his book had garnered numerous positive reviews and was restored to a high rank on Amazon’s bestseller list, despite an earlier review being taken down.
The first appeal was denied on the grounds that the book violated Amazon’s content policies, while the second cited a potential negative experience for customers. Dice contested these claims, insisting that his book was well-received and aimed to foster dialogue, backed by extensive research.
“It’s evident that someone at Amazon disagreed with my book’s viewpoints and chose to censor it based on political biases,” Dice stated. “When the Daily Caller reached out, Amazon scrambled to mitigate potential backlash by labeling it as just a ‘mistake,’ hoping to downplay the whole situation.”
He expressed frustration over the lack of support from conservative media, stating that only the Daily Caller seemed interested in the incident, even after he had reached out to various reporters and editors. Dice speculated that his independent approach might be a factor in this silence, as he often opts for self-publishing rather than engaging with mainstream conservative platforms.
“Despite having a significant independent following in conservative media, there seems to be little acknowledgement that censorship affects those outside major networks,” he remarked.
Dice emphasized that such widespread censorship, particularly by major tech companies, should be challenged, regardless of whether it involves major brands or independent voices. “If conservative media genuinely wants to combat censorship, it needs to uphold its principles for everyone,” he concluded.
