Tim Hardaway Jr. Joins the Miami Heat
Tim Hardaway Jr. is stepping into his father’s footsteps, joining the Miami Heat with a $6.5 million deal. His dad, Tim Hardaway Sr., is a Miami legend, having made a significant mark during his own time with the team. It’s an interesting development, considering the path they’ve both taken in the sport.
Hardaway Sr. played with the Heat after being traded from the Golden State Warriors, where he honed his skills for six and a half years. Now, his son is set to contribute to a team that’s also bringing in star player Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Interestingly, while Hardaway Sr.’s number 10 was retired by the Heat back in 2009, his son has worn that number during three of his five NBA seasons. However, it seems that tradition will not continue, as Hardaway Sr. has stated that his son can’t wear it—it’s “off-limits.” I mean, you have to respect that. He’s trying to maintain his legacy, after all.
He expressed his love for his son, saying he’s genuinely happy for him. “Watching him play through college and the NBA, he’s done things I never got to do,” the elder Hardaway said, acknowledging his son’s journey to places like the Final Four and even now playing with his hometown team.
Hardaway Sr. was quite the player himself, achieving notable heights in MVP voting and being named to multiple All-NBA teams during his career. The Miami franchise has changed and flourished over the years, even winning championships after his time there with the help of superstars like Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal.
As for Hardaway Jr., he’s had a variety of jersey numbers throughout his career, but many of those are taken by current Heat players. He may find himself reaching out for yet another number if he wants to keep up that family legacy in a different way.
Looks like there’s a lot to look forward to, not just for Hardaway Jr. himself but for the entire Heat organization as they prepare for another exciting NBA season.
