FBI announces 305 arrests and the recovery of 24 missing children in Chicago as part of Operation New Dawn

Operation New Dawn: A Major Law Enforcement Initiative in Chicago

During a significant law enforcement operation in Chicago, over 300 suspects were apprehended within a span of 60 days, as detailed by FBI Director Kash Patel.

“Operation New Dawn reflects an extensive cooperative approach, spearheaded by President Trump, aimed at addressing violent crime and crimes against children in major U.S. cities,” Patel shared in an exclusive statement. “This operation involved 11 federal agencies collaborating to achieve 305 arrests, rescue 24 children—some of whom had been kidnapped or were reported missing—and charge individuals with various crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and child exploitation.”

“The accomplishments of this mission, along with future initiatives like Summer Heat 2.0, should clearly show that the FBI and our partners, under Attorney General Todd Blanche’s leadership, are committed to dismantling criminal networks across the country,” he added.

The operation saw participation from multiple agencies, including the FBI, DEA, ATF, and Homeland Security Investigations. According to statements from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, those arrested included not only robbers and kidnappers but also individuals involved in gun crimes and immigration violations.

The agencies united in this effort described the operation as “badgeless,” emphasizing that they worked under a unified mission rather than individual agency identities.

U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros remarked that the cooperation reflects a new chapter in American law enforcement. “To tackle violence effectively, federal law enforcement must act swiftly,” he stated. “Operation New Dawn exemplifies that urgency. By putting aside agency logos and coming together, federal anti-violence forces made their impact felt in Chicago, asserting their presence against violent crime.”

Christopher Amon, the ATF special agent in charge, echoed this sentiment, saying, “Law enforcement has always been and will always be about teamwork. The triumph of Operation New Dawn is a testament to the leadership of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the unwavering cooperation among Chicago’s federal law enforcement partners. This collective action has significantly improved safety on our streets.”

The coalition’s efforts helped apprehend individuals like Felipe Dejesus Gómez Ramírez, identified as an illegal immigrant and convicted murderer. Alongside him, suspects David Collins and Tyrone Thomas, members of the Traveling Vice Lords gang linked to extensive drug trafficking, were also arrested and charged federally with conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl.

“Operation New Dawn illustrates the effectiveness of coordinated law enforcement efforts to tackle the interconnected issues of violent crime and drug trafficking,” Todd C. Smith, the DEA’s Chicago Field Office Special Agent in Charge said. “By sharing intelligence, resources, and know-how, we aim to target the networks threatening public safety.”

The initiative, which launched earnestly on May 1, has led to 179 defendants being indicted across 140 new criminal cases. Additionally, the operation successfully located and returned 24 children who had been abducted or reported missing.
