Border Agent Carries Injured Migrant 1,000 Feet up Steep California Mountainside

Border Patrol agents in the San Diego area rescued an injured female migrant about 1,000 feet up a steep mountainside in Southern California's Otay Mountains. The woman was injured and was unable to safely climb the steep climb.

San Diego District Patrol Chief Agent Patricia McGuirk Daniel posted a photo to X of Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents carrying a migrant woman up a steep hill near Otay Lakes Dam. did. She was injured when the woman illegally crossed the border from Mexico into California in an attempt to evade her arrest.

The chief reported that BORSTAR personnel carried the woman nearly 1,000 feet through rough terrain. “The woman was unable to walk and had to be evacuated to a safe location to get to the hospital,” the police chief said.

The rescue was one of 24 migrant rescues carried out during Christmas week. That week, San Diego-area officials arrested about 7,100 immigrants from 75 countries. Among those arrested were 142 unaccompanied migrant children.

In the first two months of fiscal year 2024, which began Oct. 1, San Diego area officials arrested more than 61,000 immigrants who illegally crossed the border between ports of entry. This is an increase of nearly 76% over the same period last year.
