Coleman Hughes refuses to accept the left's version of the ouster of former Harvard University president Claudine Gay.
After Gay's resignation on Tuesday, progressives argued that Gay was the victim of a racially motivated campaign against her. The story claims that conservatives targeted Gay because she is Black and a supporter of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
At CNN, network anchor Abby Phillip tried to feed Hugh is keen to give legitimacy to this argument.
“stop it [you] “Do you think people who are claiming this is a victory for DEI have anything to do with the fact that she was a Black woman?” Phillip asked.
“I don't think that was the case. And you know what? Even if it was, it wouldn't be justified.” [the plagiarism]. “If you or I did this, or even a white academic, 50 instances of plagiarism would be career-ending,” Hughes retorted. Have I failed myself? It's as if the commissioners of Major League Baseball and the NBA have a lifelong history of steroid use and are now in charge of kicking others out for steroid use.
“That's completely unacceptable,” he explained.
Throughout the interview, Philippe and guest Musab Ali repeatedly defended Gaye's actions, suggesting that she was the victim of an unfair process involving her race and that her plagiarism was not serious. . However, Hughes ignored their excuses and remained resolute.
“This will get students expelled,” Hughes claimed, later saying, “This is a serious pattern of fraud that can ruin the careers of journalists and writers.”
According to Hughes, Gaye “has no one to blame but himself in this situation.”
“If you're the president of a university, it means you're responsible for cracking down on plagiarism among your students. Every year, several Harvard students are disciplined for plagiarism. You yourself. However, we cannot trace the history of nearly 50 credible plagiarism allegations,'' he explained.
“She chose the easy route of plagiarizing over and over again rather than the hard route of constructing her own original prose,” he added.
