The Tucson Area Border Patrol apprehended more than 30,000 migrants over the Christmas and New Year's holiday weeks. The surge in immigration to the Tucson area in recent weeks continues to break long-standing records.
Tucson District Patrol Chief John Modlin posted a report showing he had apprehended 13,800 immigrants in the past week. Eighty-nine federal criminal cases were filed as a result of the immigration arrests.

During the week, agents rescued 11 people and stopped six people from smuggling.
A week earlier, Modlin reported 16,800 immigrant arrests during the Christmas holiday week. During the week, agents opened 104 federal criminal cases, rescued 22 immigrants, and thwarted two human smuggling attempts.
The Tucson area remains the busiest Border Patrol station. Tucson-area agents arrested about 80,000 immigrants in December, breaking a record dating back to the Clinton administration, Breitbart Texas reported. The previous record for immigrant arrests in the Tucson area was set in March 2000, when agents encountered 76,245 immigrants, according to U.S. Border Patrol Encounter Reports. Approximately 80,000 migrants were reported in December, exceeding that record by nearly 5 percent.
This record-setting report comes days before the House Homeland Security Committee begins impeachment hearings against U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Breitbart Texas reports that the DHS secretary is scheduled to visit the second busiest border patrol area (Del Rio) on Monday. Mr. Mayorkas' visit will include meetings with local officials, Customs and Border Protection officials, and Border Patrol officials in the Del Rio area, but will not include a media relations session. All meetings of the Commissioners are not open to the public.
