Inflation ‘Was Both Parties’ Trying to Get out of COVID over 4 Years, But We Did Give People Money with Checks

On CNBC's Monday broadcast of “Squawk Box,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said people are seeing soaring grocery prices and that it's “a challenge in managing the coronavirus.” “It's one of those things,” he said. And inflation “has been something both sides have been working on for four years to get out of the coronavirus.”

co-host Joe Kernen asked.[C]You claim to really be the party of the working class when you spend so much money that inflation is out of control for three or four years and people are actually building a middle class. [is] Are they actually earning less than they did three or four years ago? I don't think you can really claim to be the party of the working class. ”

Kanna replied: “Look, we've done a lot to bring manufacturing jobs back to this country. We've done a lot to reverse the trend of offshoring to China. Stimulus checks… put money in people's pockets through the child tax credit and help them pay their bills. Now, it's right that inflation happened. I'm not going to deny that. It's because both of them have been affected by COVID-19. It took more than four years to get out of the virus. And now, finally, real wages are rising. In the first few years they didn't. But when people were standing in line at the grocery store, I'm not denying that prices are going up and that was one of the challenges in managing COVID-19.”
