PA House Democrat Calls for Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to Resign

Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pennsylvania) became the first Democrat to call on Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who was hospitalized on January 1, to resign, but he has also called for the resignation of President Biden, his vice president, the rest of the nation, and others. He did not inform senior security officials about his hospitalization until the very last minute. January 4th.

Delzio posted to X on Wednesday:

I have lost confidence in Secretary Lloyd Austin's leadership of the Department of Defense. Because of the lack of transparency regarding his recent treatment and its impact on continuity of command.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I have a solemn duty in Congress to oversee the Department of Defense. Today, because of that mission, I am required to call on Secretary Austin to resign.

I thank Secretary Austin for his leadership and years of dedicated service to the American people, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

WATCH — Top House Military Democrat: Biden should take credit for firing Austin, but his actions don't explain:

Mr. Austin was still hospitalized on January 10, the day after Mr. Biden, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks learned of his hospitalization, the Pentagon said. On the 5th, Austin announced that he had returned to “full duty.”

Mr. Austin suffered complications during a surgery on December 22nd and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance on January 1st, but he did not tell Mr. Biden about it either. During that surgery, he spent the night in the hospital. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in “early December” and underwent surgery, according to the Pentagon. The White House said Biden was only informed of his diagnosis on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the Pentagon Inspector General announced it would launch its own investigation into conduct related to Austin's hospitalization and failure to notify others.
