White House Press Secretary Discusses Recent Violence
WASHINGTON—White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated on Monday that the recent assassination attempt on President Donald Trump is a culmination of 11 years of negative portrayal of him by leftists, pundits, and the media.
Leavitt made her remarks during what is likely her final news conference before the birth of her second child, just days following an incident where a 31-year-old gunman, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, attempted to infiltrate the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton.
“No one has faced more bullets and violence in recent years than President Trump,” Leavitt asserted. “This political violence comes as a direct result of systematic demonization from commentators, some elected Democrats, and parts of the media.”
She further explained, “The consistent, hateful rhetoric directed at President Trump over the past 11 years has helped justify this violence and has brought us to this alarming situation.” Reports have indicated that Allen’s manifesto detailed his intentions to target not only the president but also other officials.
“Such violence is incited by those who label the president as a fascist or a threat to democracy for political gain,” she added. Leavitt emphasized that there’s a “left-wing cult of hatred” directed at the president and his supporters, which has previously resulted in injuries and fatalities.
She pointed out that Allen’s manifesto echoed the same anti-Trump sentiments often found in mainstream rhetoric. “When you read this shooter’s manifesto, consider how similar it is to rhetoric you encounter on social media and other platforms every day,” she challenged reporters. “If we reflect honestly, we must admit there’s no real difference.”
Leavitt also referred to comments made by ABC’s late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who recently remarked that First Lady Melania Trump possesses “the glow of a pregnant widow.” Leavitt found this particularly egregious.
“Who would say a wife should be outraged that her husband might be killed?” she questioned. “From what I observed, the First Lady was not at all like that.” Following the incident, the First Lady criticized Kimmel, and President Trump urged ABC to terminate his contract.
In her post on X-TV, the First Lady expressed, “People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the chance to invade our homes with hate every night. He’s a coward, hiding behind ABC, which continues to protect him.”
