President Joe Biden said Monday that former President Donald Trump is the “clear frontrunner” after Trump's historic victory in the Republican caucuses in Iowa.
Mr. Biden's confirmation underscores the seeming inevitability that Mr. Trump will win the Republican primary and challenge Mr. Biden for re-election.
Many Democrats sought to prevent Trump from becoming the front-runner by indicting him and keeping his name off state ballots.
“It looks like Donald Trump won Iowa. He's the clear front-runner on the other side at this point,” Biden's X account Posted.
“But here's the thing,” Biden continued, “This election is always going to be a battle of you and me versus extreme MAGA Republicans. It was yesterday and it will be tomorrow.”
Biden's scare tactics continued in his campaign messages.
“Iowa results have been released and it is clear that Donald Trump is the official front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination,” Biden fundraising email read. “We need to do more from now on. If Donald Trump is our enemy, expect vile attacks, endless lies, and huge spending.”
Since Monday evening, Trump holds the record for the largest margin of victory in the history of a contested Iowa Republican caucus. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kansas) previously held the record in the contested Iowa Republican caucuses with 12.8%.
Trump received more than 50% of the total vote and won all 99 counties with 95% of the vote, giving him a 29.7 percentage point lead over Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.).
In his victory speech, President Trump said, “I truly believe this is a time for all of our countries to come together.'' “We want to come together.
“Whether we're Republican or Democrat, whether we're liberal or conservative, we all come together to fix the world, fix the problems, fix all the death and destruction that we're seeing. It would be great if we could do that.”
